Happy Record Store Day Durham!

Here are the top five stories today in Durham:

  1. According to Realtor.com, the median home price in Durham was at $365,000 as of February 2022. During Thursday afternoon's Durham City Council work session, council members received an update from the city's community development department on the city's efforts to create more affordable housing. The Forever Home Durham program an effort to create more affordable homes and living for low to moderate income residents, and work is happening to triple the number of affordable homes downtown.   2. Durham police officers are investigating a Thursday shooting that took place on 15-501 South. One man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and all but one lane on the highway was closed. Police have not said what led to the shooting and no arrests have been made.   3. The Durham Police Department is seeking community help identifying and locating the suspect in a bank robbery. The robbery occurred around 12:15 pm on Thursday at the Wells Fargo on Main Street. No weapon was seen when the man entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. The man received the cash and left the bank. (CBS17, WRAL)
  4. The City of Durham is giving residents the opportunity to have input on some of the crisis response strategies that will soon be implemented. The Community Safety Department and the Community Safety and Wellness Task Forces's Skilled Crisis Care Responders round table will take place on Tuesday April 26 via Zoom. The round table will touch on topics of crisis call diversion, community response teams, co-response, and care navigation. (Bull City Today Facebook)
  5. Black Restaurant Week returned Friday, and runs through Sunday, May 1. The event aims to support Black-owned businesses in the community as a nationwide effort to shine light on minority businesses. The 'More Than Just a Week' campaign also helps provide small business grants and other support to minority businesses. (WRAL)

  • Hi-Wire is hosting Freedom Ride Rescue for an Earth Day dog adoption event from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
  • Today is Durham Central Park's Spring Volunteer Workday and they will be seeking volunteers from 10:00am-12:00pm.
  • The Rotary E Club of District 7710 is seeking volunteers to help with the Fostering Love Duffle Bags Stuffing today at Goodwill Industries Durham from 9:00am-12:00pm.
  • El Centro Hispano, Inc. is hosting a family celebration today with cultural activities, workshops, book presentations, art groups, and more. (Facebook)
