Here are the top stories today in Durham:
- Two children were victims of gunfire while waiting in the drive-thru line at a Durham Burger King. The children were ages 11 and 2 and the family was able to get the children to the hospital to treat their non-life-threatening injuries. (Daily Investor Hub)
- The Durham school board heard an update on Thursday regarding staff and teacher vaccination status. The board approved an employee vaccine mandate in September, and as of November 1, 1,425 of the 5,454 employees remained unvaccinated. (WRAL)
- The Emily Krzyzewski Center in Durham opened its new 7,500-square foot expansion with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning. The non-profit organization serves as a college access hub in Durham to aid students and graduates with college success. (CBS17)
- The debate over the sports betting bill that has been making its way through the General Assembly is coming close to a vote. If supporters are successful, sports betting could be legal as early as next year. The bill has seen bipartisan support as well as bipartisan opposition. (WNCT9)
- The state Supreme Court is now facing a decision that could impact cases for years to come. As the issue of recusal of two justices has been raised, the state Supreme Court must now decide whether it will force the recusal of the judges. (WRAL)
