Here are the top stories in Durham today:
- 2021 has officially been deemed the deadliest year on record in Durham. 43 people have died so far this year, surpassing 2016's previous record of 42. (CBS17) At Durham city council's Monday night meeting, Mayor Steve Schewel briefly acknowledged the grim record-breaking, however the council did not discuss any solutions. (CBS17)
- A Durham family had a rude awakening this weekend as a stolen SUV crashed into their home at 3:30 am. The crash occurred near the North Roxboro Street interchange, furthering residents' concerns about the danger of the area. (WRAL)
- A Durham entrepreneur has founded Natural Boss Creative, a branding company that aims to help other women of color succeed, and is offering tips for those who abandoned their former jobs amidst the pandemic. (abc11)
- 9-year old Gabriella McMillan ran away from her home in Durham this weekend. The family was concerned as she had never stayed away overnight. On Monday afternoon dozens joined to search for the young girl, and after a two-day search she has been found. (WRAL)
- Governor Roy Cooper has announced plans to sign the new two-year budget bill into law. Although the Governor isn't completely satisfied with the bill, he says that, "on balance, the good outweighs the bad." (Spectrum News 1)
