Here are the top stories in Durham today:

  1. Durham County municipal elections took place yesterday. All of the local election results can be found here.
  2. Durham's new Police Chief, Patrice Andrews took office on Monday. Before Chief Andrews was able to take office, nearly 100 people had already signed a petition demanding "admission of wrongdoing" for her role in the deportation of Samuel Oliver Bruno. (INDY Week)
  3. Durham police are investigating the shooting of a man who showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds. (CBS17) Police were also able to identify victim, Alexis Michelle Centeno in another shooting that occurred last week. (CBS17)
  4. Bull City United workers conducted 275 mediations from July through September. The mediations involved preventing retaliations after shootings occurred, or having conversations with people in key areas to try to prevent conflicts and shootings. (CBS17)
  5. The North Carolina General Assembly has had some notable controversary over the last few days.
    1. The Republican-controlled Senate committee approved a map of new congressional districts that the Princeton Gerrymandering Project gave an "F" grade and splits Wake, Mecklenburg, and Guilford counties each into three different districts. (WAVY)
    2. A former Gaston County commissioner, Donnie Loftis was sworn into the State House after the passing of Dana Bumgarner. Democrats walked out en masse in response to the appointment due to his presence at the January 6 Capitol Breech and riots. (WRAL)
