Happy National Acai Bowl Day Durham!

First, today's weather:

Some clouds, then sunshine. High: 82 Low: 63.

Here are the top five stories today in Durham:

  1. The family of a Durham man who has been missing for the past two weeks believe he was abducted by a group of people. Shawn Burton is a 44-year-old father of six. According to his wife, he has no enemies, however she fears for her safety and asked to speak to WRAL anonymously. Burton left home March 22 to work at Club 919, but never made it there. The Durham Police Department posted that Burton was reported missing on March 22 and was last seen on North Duke Street in Durham. (WRAL)
  2. Durham's YouthWorks program has seen more than 1,200 youth apply so far this year. City officials say that in order to serve all the applicants, they need more organizations that can offer two weeks of job readiness training to come forward and participate. The program has been an instrumental community offering for decades. (CBS17)
  3. The 48th annual Durham CROP Hunger Walk will return Sunday afternoon for the first in-person event after being held virtually for the last two years. The walk begins at 2:30pm in front of Duke Chapel and is working to fight hunger around the world. (abc11)
  4. On Monday, tree pollen levels in Raleigh reached some of the highest of the season. Dr. Edwin Kim at UNC Health says that some patients are confused if their symptoms are COVID-19 or allergies. Kim says that you can take an allergy tablet and if it clears up it is a good indicator that it is not COVID-19 related. (WRAL)
  5. Lawyers representing competing sides in North Carolina's felony voter legislation are asking the appeals court to step in. Last week a panel of trial judges struck down the nearly 50-year-old state law preventing convicted felons from having voting rights restored while on probation, parole, or post-release supervision. On Monday attorneys representing ex-offenders and civil rights groups who sued over the law in 2019, asked the Supreme Court to take over the case before the Court of Appeals intervenes. Where should you invest as a Durham resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Durham residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it's fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
