  1. This week, the State Highway Patrol will be conducting Operation Stop Arm around school zones and bus stops. The effort is in conjunction with National School Bus Safety Week to enforce traffic safety. Passing a stopped school bus even without incident is a misdemeanor with fines up to $500. (abc11)
  2. City Manager Wanda Page has released more insights into the search that led to selecting Patrice Andrews for Durham's new Police Chief. The selection process is all outlined to give full transparency in the search. (DurhamNC)
  3. The College Foundation of North Carolina is hosting the NC Countdown to College week. From October 18-22 it will be waiving application fees for most in-state applications. Hundreds of volunteers will be available to help students submit applications as well. (CFNC)
  4. Durham resident and cancer survivor Becca Forrest was diagnosed in 2018. Since her treatment has ended, she hopes to put the experience behind her. Every October she is forced to remember the trauma she went through while battling it. Trauma psychologist Deborah Serani says, "For some, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a moment to celebrate empowerment, but for others it can be a re-traumatizing experience." (Yahoo News)
