Happy National Consumer Protection Week Durham!
First, today's weather:
Warmer with periods of sun. High: 77 Low: 61.
Here are the top five stories today in Durham:
- As gas prices continue to rise, consumers are questioning what constitutes price gouging. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein says they are getting a number of complaints regarding gas prices. Stein says that price gouging depends on how the high prices are reached, and that price increases must be considered reasonable. (WNCT9)
- Fans came from far and wide to watch Coach Mike Krzyzewski's last home game with the Blue Devils. ESPN crews were setting up for the rivalry game on Friday afternoon, and some fans paid up to $4,000 to be able to watch the game in person. (CBS17)
- The Triangle real estate market is red-hot, with seven realtors to help people close on every one home. As of Friday there were nearly 2,000 active hoes for sale in the area, with 13,500 realtors in the area. As buyers compete in a market with low inventory, experts say that in order to give yourself the best possible chance, you should use an agent with lots of experience. (WRAL)
- The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants says it is prepared to welcome Ukrainian refugees, although it is still working to find permanent housing for Afghani refugees. Dr. Omer A. Omer is no stranger to fleeing danger in his homeland. Now he and his staff are preparing to work with Ukrainian refugees as they settle into the Triangle. (abc11)
- All North Carolina candidate filings wrapped up on Friday for the party primaries. In the fall, voters will decide who will succeed retiring U.S. Senator Richard Burr, as well as the state's 14 U.S. House members, all 170 General Assembly members, justices, judges, and many other local positions. There have been 26 candidates who signed up to run for Burr's seat. It is unclear if the candidate pool will be affected by the U.S. Supreme Court challenge to block the congressional map. (AP News)
