From our sponsor:

  1. Durham leaders are discussing news ways to make the city a safer place to live and work. The two-day virtual budget retreat began Thursday and continues through today. City leaders have discussed various new technologies including a gunshot detection system called ShotSpotter. Mayor Pro Tem Mark Anthony Middleton has been advocating for the technology for years, and is suggesting starting with a pilot program as many don't always call police when hearing gunshots. (WRAL)
  2. Developer Crossland Southeast will be building 200 townhomes in northern Durham. Starting price for homes in Latta Park will be $200,000, with 5% of the homes subsidized for affordable housing. (abc11)
  3. During Vice President Kamala Harris's visit, the administration announced plans to invest $45 million in grant programs for community colleges to promote job growth. The investment will promote growth in trade careers. Durham Tech offers trade programs in a variety of fields that are seeing increased demand across the state. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. David Winters of Durham was arrested after officials say he repeatedly harassed and cyberstalked Raleigh city councilman Jonathan Melton. Melton was elected in 2019 and said the situation began around the time of his election. Melton is also the first openly LGBTQ person elected citywide in Raleigh, but officials did not say if that was the reason he was being harassed online. (WRAL)
  5. All briefings have been filed in the lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to overturn the congressional map that was approved by a 3-judge panel in Wake County Superior Court.
