Here are the top stories in Durham today:
- New data from the Triangle Multiple Listing Service (TMLS) has shown that the real estate markets are remaining hot, without anticipating a fall price drop. Historic real estate market data suggests a slowdown, but broker Jim Allen emphasizes that pre-COVID data is not indicative of the current market. Across the Triangle the demand for homes is far greater than the inventory needed. (WRAL Tech Wire)
- A duplex fire displaced six people including five children on Thursday. The Fire Department had 32 firefighters on the scene and they were able to put the fire out and control the smoke onto one side of the duplex. The family was not home at the time, however one of their dogs was unable to escape. The American Red Cross is helping the displaced family. (CBS17)
- In spite of global shortages, Melanated Wine has opened its doors in South Durham. Owner, Lashonda Modest moved to North Carolina 10 years ago and hopes to replace her full time job with her wine business. Customers are able to order online, but due to the supply-chain issues, they wont be able to expect their product to ship until the first week of November. (abc11)
- JLL Income Property Trust has acquired 5 & 47 National Way from a seller that was not disclosed. They are two life sciences properties and sold for approximately $67 million. The buildings are fully leased out to life sciences tenants. (Rebusiness Online)
- North Carolina is feeling the sting of the national gas price increase. GasBuddy has reported prices at their highest levels in seven years. GasBuddy says the increase is happening because oil-producing companies refuse to increase production to more than initially planned over the summer. (CBS17)
