Happy National Be Heard Day Durham!
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the afternoon. High: 80 Low: 53.
Here are the top four stories in Durham today:
- Duke has created the Krzyzewski Family Scholarship to honor Coach K and his family for the 42 years they have been in Durham. The scholarship is awarded to student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional leadership, and will be awarded to five students each year from any sport in their final year of eligibility. (FOX8) Although the Tar Heels claimed victory over the Blue Devils on Saturday, Coach K. was happy to turn the page and found symbolism in the loss for new beginnings. (abc11) In attendance at the game were ninety-six of Coach K.'s former players. (KRON4)
- Hundreds gathered to show support for Ukrainians impacted by the Russian invasion on Saturday afternoon. The gathering included Ukrainian people, policymakers, historians, and more. (CBS17, WRAL) Many NC residents have also been using Airbnb to provide financial aid to Ukrainian residents, by making reservations, simply to provide income to hosts. (WRAL)
- Justin Long, a Durham missionary with the World Missions Ministries of the Pentecostal Holiness Church is headed out to Hungary to help Ukrainian refugees. Long and other missionaries will be handing out supplies to the refugees that have fled to Hungary. (CBS17)
- The North Carolina Supreme Court has agreed to accelerate appeals in the photo voter identification lawsuit. The justices granted the request on Wednesday, and they will begin hearing the case without waiting for the Court of Appeals to deliberate first. Oral arguments are not scheduled but they will likely take place this summer. (Rockingham Now)
