🌱 Man Indicted in December 13 Shooting of 6 + Unarmed Responders

Here are the top four stories today in Durham:

  1. Keon Rayquan Beal has officially been indicted on two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder more than three months after a December 13 shooting that took the life of 19-year old Isaiah Carrington and 15 year old Ariuna Cotton, while seriously injuring 4 others. Beal is not yet in custody, and police officers are asking for the public's help in locating him. Officers still refer to the investigation as ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges.   2. The City of Durham has posted new job listings for unarmed first responders to answer certain 911 calls. The new Community Safety Department will include teams of unarmed responders to respond to mental health calls, welfare checks, trespassing calls, and public indecency beginning as early as June. Licensed clinicians can receive anywhere from $58,489 to $90,646 annually and peer specialists can make from $43,302 to $66,640 annually. (CBS17)
  3. Wendell Tabb, the drama teacher who elevated Hillside High's drama program into a world-renowned program has announced his retirement. During his 35 year career, Tabb directed workshops around the world, and has received many national awards. Tabb's final stage play at Hillside High School will be presented later this month. (abc11)
  4. Sunday marks the long anticipated return of the Food Truck Rodeo to Durham. Durham Central Park will host the event from 12:00 pm -4:00 pm, and will feature 35 different food trucks. The Food Truck Rodeo is one of the longest running events at Durham Central Park, and helps raise money to fund the park's operation and improvement projects. (abc11)

  • Wayback Burgers is hosting its grand opening today, and BB's Chicken is set to open on March 25. (WRAL)
