First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 63 Low: 42.
Here are the top five stories in Durham today:
- One man was taken to a Durham hospital after arriving to a police station to report he was shot on Friday. Police say that the man drove himself to the mini police station on Holloway Street just before 2:15 pm. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. (CBS17)
- Durham Police also responded to the scene of a shooting at a Sheetz gas station off N. Duke Street on Friday afternoon. The shooting occurred shortly after 3:15 pm in the parking lot. The woman is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and police are working to get more information. (abc11)
- Neighbors at the Lakemoor Apartments are calling for more action to curb violence after the shooting and stand off that took place on Thursday. On Friday morning, residents spoke about the incident that has left them shaken. One of the neighbors who helped save the man who had been shot said that "the first shot sounded like a bomb, then I started hearing the gentleman scream 'help me, help me.'" Although she was able to aid the man due to her background in nursing, she is concerned with her daughter's inability to sleep since the incident. (CBS17)
- As gas prices in Durham have dropped to $3.95, many people have been wondering if they will soon jump back up. According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at Gas Buddy, the worst could be behind us. President Joe Biden ordered the release of one million barrels of oil per day from the nation's reserve, and although that has done little to influence global supply and demand, De Haan says we could see another 15-25 cent decline in the next few weeks. (CBS17)
