Here are the top stories in Durham today:

  1. The heavy thunderstorms that came through on Monday night caused power outages and localized flooding. The storms had wind gusts up to 60 mph, and around 3,200 Durham residents were without power around 10:00 pm. (CBS17)
  2. Jaguar Gene Therapy has announced that it will build a new manufacturing facility in Durham that will create around 200 jobs starting at $92,500. (TechWire)
  3. Durham police are asking for help from the public identifying a suspect that robbed Wells Fargo Bank on Hope Valley Road on October 23. (CBS17)
  4. Activists in Durham are creating "safe space" in communities prone to violence. The resource center will be open to youth living at Calvert Place Apartments, Franklin Village, and Main Street Townhomes, and will hopefully be open by December. (WRAL)
  5. Monday began the series of public comment sessions regarding the potential Congressional maps that have been made available. With Republican proposed maps giving as much as a predicted 11-3 advantage, the state Senate's Democratic leader said that if those maps are adopted, there will be an "absoluteness of lawsuits."
