The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Durham.

Happy National Trivia Day Durham!
First, today's weather:
Sunny and not as cold. High: 43 Low: 28.
Here are the top five stories today in Durham:
- The trial over North Carolina's voting maps began Monday after the State Supreme Court expedited the case to determine constitutionality of the maps. Critics of the maps say that with North Carolina voters divided 50% Democrat and 50% Republican, maps should reflect that. Supporters of the redraw say that the Republican controlled legislator were transparent and lawful in their redistricting process. (abc11)
- Monday storms brought four inches of rain to Durham by 10:30 am. Thousands were left without power in central North Carolina due to overnight rain and flash flooding to the area. (WRAL) It is likely that the roads will have frozen and drivers should be cautious when travelling this morning. (WRAL)
- The City of Durham was forced to suspend Monday collections due to weather impacts. Customers who typically receive Monday garbage and recycling as well as Friday yard waste service will have their waste collected this morning beginning at 6:00 am. (City of Durham Facebook)
- Police have identified the two victims of the Extended Stay America Hotel on Sunday morning. Jalen Ramon Mills and Tony Rashawn Smith Jr. both of Durham were victims of the shooting and died on site. No arrests have been made as the shooting remains under investigation. (CBS17)
- Holiday travel issues are persisting beyond the holidays. Early on Monday morning more than a dozen flights at RDU were either delayed or cancelled. Winter storms and omicron variant are continuing to impact staffing and flights. (WRAL)
