🌱 Traffic Stop Reveals Stolen Firearms + City Vacancies Growing

Here are the top five stories in Durham today:

  1. Durham police released photos of the vehicle involved in the deadly double shooting at an apartment complex. The vehicle was a gray Honda Civic that was reported stolen, and police are trying to identify a man who they believe has information on the shooting. (CBS17)
  2. A public meeting to discuss the East Durham Water, Sewer, and Storm-water Improvements Project - Phase 1A is scheduled for Tuesday, January 11 at 6:00 pm. You can register to participate and will receive an email containing information about the session. (DurhamNC)
  3. The Durham County Sheriff's Office arrested an 18-year-old after a holiday traffic stop revealed a stolen firearms and drugs. Ricky Orlando Nichols Jr. was taken into custody without incident. (CBS17)
  4. Most City of Durham offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday December 31 in observance of New Year's holiday. Most city offices including all non-emergency city operations will be closed to the public and curbside collections for Friday yard waste customers will be delayed until Monday, January 3. (DurhamNC)
  5. The effects of the 'Great Resignation' have continued to impact nearly every industry in 2021, with city governments feeling the effects. The City of Durham has reported around 20% vacancies at 388, well above the 2020 figure of 276 vacancies. (abc11)
