🌱 Transportation Funding + Durham Student On To National Spelling Bee
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Durham.

Happy National Beer Day Durham!
First, today's weather:
Not as warm; an a.m. t-storm. High: 71 Low: 46.
Here are the top five stories in Durham today:
- Durham is set to receive more than $11 million in funding through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. North Carolina in total will receive over $176 million to support public transit. The U.S. Department of Transportation says the money will allow transit agencies to buy new buses and railcars, address repair backlogs, modernize fleets, and transition to more climate friendly technology. (CBS17)
- A fourth grade student at Bethesda Elementary School will join 200 students that will be competing at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. For friends, families, and educators, Frank Dumas' win at the Duke Regional Spelling Bee did not come as a shock. Now the hard-working student will be headed to Washington, D.C. on June 2. (WRAL)
- A Saturday night incident took place at McDougald Terrace in which a woman was shot and a child was hit with a grill. Police responded to the gunshot wound call just after 9:30 pm to find the woman who had been shot in the foot. Two suspects were named in the warrant, but neither has been charged at this time as the investigation is ongoing. (CBS17)
- The High Path Avian Influenza was first detected in North Carolina last Wednesday, and now it has spread to multiple farms across the state. More than 77,000 commercial birds have been affected already, and test results are pending at three Wayne County locations that could affect nearly 300,000 more birds. Although the avian flu has not been known to be transmitted through food consumption, there could be some impact to pricing due to supply chain issues. (abc11)
