Happy International Women's Day Durham!
First, today's weather:
Cooler with clouds and sun. High: 62 Low: 42.
Here are the top four stories today in Durham:
- Monday marked the first official day with no mask mandate in Durham and Orange counties. Durham health officials announced plans to have the mandate expire when they met last week, and the move comes as the county's state of emergency is being terminated as well. Masks are still required in Durham schools at this time. (WRAL, CBS17)
- The Durham City Council held a virtual roundtable discussion on the violence interruption efforts Monday. The city spent $500,000 to create the Bull City United Violence Interruption program to prevent future shootings, and around half of the positions are filled. (CBS17)
- Governor Roy Cooper is warning North Carolinians to prepare for spring severe weather. Gov. Cooper proclaimed March 6-March 12 as Sever Weather Preparedness Week. On Wednesday, March 9 there will be a statewide tornado drill at 9:30 am that will be initiated through test messages via the Emergency Alert System on radio and TV. (FOX Carolina)
- Prepare for gas prices to hit an all-time high as prices continue to spike with no indication of stopping. Analysts at GasBuddy predict that the nation will soon reach a national average of $4.50 per gallon, as the average in Durham is up 34.5 cents per gallon from last week. (CBS17)
