Accidental Shooting After Raleigh Gun Show
A 29-year-old woman was shot accidentally while in her car outside a gun show in Raleigh, NC.
A 29-year-old woman was shot in the head Saturday morning after the Dixie Gun and Knife Classic at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
According to reports, two passengers, William Glosson and Lasonya Judd, were comparing their recently purchased handguns when one of them went off. The gun accidentally discharged from the backseat and the bullet pierced the head rest of driver, Alyssa Lewis Glosson’s, grazing her head.
Glosson wasn’t seriously injured in the event and was released after a short stay in the hospital. The Wake County Sheriff said they are treating this incident as an accident as it appears the firearm was legally purchased and as of yet, it appears no crime occurred.

If the police later determine that the firearm was not purchased legally even given the lax gun show regulations, Glosson and Judd could be looking at criminal charges. Raleigh criminal lawyer Jesse Scharff, who regularly handles weapons charges cases, states on his website that “possession of a firearm and other weapons charges carry severe sanctions in the criminal justice system.”
In North Carolina, the only requirement to purchase a firearm at a gun show, is two forms of ID. No state permit is required for buying a rifle or shotgun, however a license or permit is required for the sell or transfer of handgun in the state.
