Girls on the Run Will 'Run for Their Hero' at Saturday's 5k
All proceeds from the fun run go towards the nonprofit program.
This year the Fayetteville YMCA event will support the Girls on the Run (GOTR). GOTR is a program for elementary aged girls from 8-12. This 10-week program inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running and is designed to promote good choices for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Through the experience of running, interactive activities and discussions, participants learn how to celebrate being a girl!
This 5k run culminates their spring training in preparing to complete the 5k course, for many it is their first race. As a volunteer coach, this program is in the second season and is near and dear to my heart. The girls have all worked so hard and are excited about the festivities before and after the run on Saturday.
