AVL dispatch helps Red Oak firefighters quickly contain Greenville house fire (wcti12.com) — A house fire on Remington Court in Greenville was quickly contained Tuesday evening thanks to AVL technology that dispatched the closest Red Oak fire engine, limiting damage to an exterior wall and avoiding injuries. New mutual-aid agreements between Red Oak and Greenville Fire/Rescue now let the closest truck respond across city and rural boundaries, including for crashes, gas leaks, and cardiac arrests behind the Red Oak station.

2. Thomas sworn in as first woman to serve as city's police chief (reflector.com) — Greenville residents have a new police chief as Kolenya "K.Z." Thomas was sworn in as the city's first woman and first African-American woman to lead the department. A longtime Greenville officer and ECU graduate, she emphasized honoring the department's history, supporting current officers, and strengthening community trust while serving alongside other Pitt County law enforcement leaders.

Man pleads guilty in Planet Fitness death, Winterville assault, gets at least 32 years in prison (copy) (reflector.com) — A Winterville man has been sentenced to at least 32 years in prison for a 2023 shooting that killed a young man outside a Greenville Planet Fitness and for an earlier attempted murder in Winterville. Greenville and Winterville police linked both crimes through DNA and ballistics, while the victim's mother, who later died by suicide, had campaigned tirelessly for answers.

Tie Breakers sports bar closes Winterville location after six years (witn.com) — Tie Breakers has closed its Winterville sports bar, but its two Greenville locations remain open and will absorb staff from the shuttered site. The owner cites weak performance and management issues, while longtime Winterville residents say the loss stings and hope a new business moves in soon.
