• Two Lenoir County women plead guilty in $187,000 NC HOPE fraud scheme (wcti12.com) — Two Lenoir County women have admitted to a federal fraud scheme that used fake rental applications for local properties, a case investigated with help from Kinston Police. Prosecutors say they stole more than $187,000 from the NC HOPE pandemic housing program, money meant to keep vulnerable renters housed and with utilities. Both now face potential long prison terms and heavy fines. 
• NC State football availability report: Freshman WR Tyreek Copper listed as 'out' at Virginia (on3.com) — A former Kinston High football star, freshman receiver Tyreek Copper, has been ruled out for NC State's season opener at Virginia, despite recent praise from his position coach. The Wolfpack listed seven players as out, while Virginia will miss even more, shaping expectations for Saturday's ACC matchup. Copper is still expected to contribute later this season.
