New Coronavirus Death, Cases Reported In Iredell
At least five Iredell County residents are now hospitalized due to coronavirus-related illness, county health officials said Thursday.
MOORESVILLE, NC — An Iredell County resident has died as a result of novel coronavirus, marking the fourth death from the illness in the county, Iredell County Health Department said Thursday.
"The individual had underlying health conditions and died from complications associated with the novel strain of coronavirus, COVID-19," ICHD said in a statement. "In order to protect the families’ privacy, no further information about this individual will be released."
The number of county residents confirmed to have the coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, also rose and is now at 98.

The tally is cumulative and includes at least 53 cases that are assumed recovered, according to county health data.

"Reporting the number of cases that appear to have recovered is a complicated process," ICHD said in a statement. "Some infected people will have mild symptoms and others find themselves with more severe symptoms. People have varying experiences on how the virus runs its course, making reporting the number of those who have appeared to have recovered a complicated process, adding, ";Full-recovery' looks different for everyone and cannot truly be defined or measured at this time."
Five Iredell County residents are currently hospitalized for coronavirus-related illness, Iredell County Health Department said.

There are now at least 7,605 people in North Carolina confirmed to have COVID-19, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said Thursday morning. The death toll from novel coronavirus in the state is now at 253 deaths.
The number of outbreaks confirmed in congregate living facilities in the state, such as nursing homes and residential care facilities, continues to rise as deaths reported in these facilities claim about 49 percent of the state's death toll.
One such outbreak was reported earlier this week at an Iredell County nursing home. The Iredell long-term care facility is one of 40 nursing homes and 14 residential care facilities in the state reporting an outbreak of the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, NC DHHS said Thursday.
Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases are emerging as of 4 p.m. April 23, according to the Iredell County Department of Health:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 ad 28678)
- 10 cases
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 28 cases
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 60 cases

According to county health data, those in the age group of 50 to 64 years of age represent 35 percent of all Iredell cases, followed by those 25 to 49 years of age with 32 percent of the cases and 18 to 24 years of age with 13 percent of cases. Those 65 and older make up 21 percent of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County.
At least one person infected with COVID-19 in Iredell County is under age of 17.
