Funeral Arrangements Set For Slain Mooresville Officer
K9 Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop May 4, will be laid to rest Friday.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Funeral arrangements for slain Mooresville police officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop over the weekend, have been set for Friday, May 10, according to police officials.
The K9 unit police officer was fatally shot by suspect Michael Yovany Aldana, 28, of Mooresville during what police described as a “routine traffic stop” along West Plaza Drive around 10 p.m. May 4.
"The suspect in the shooting fled the scene and was later located in a nearby apartment," MPD said. "Once police entered the residence, the suspect was confirmed dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Funeral services for Sheldon will begin at 11 a.m. at Calvary Church in Charlotte, located at 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road. A procession of public safety vehicles will leave from the funeral home in Concord to the church in Charlotte for the service. Following the service, a procession will travel to Mooresville Police Department, where the procession will disband, MPD said.
The specific travel route and time for the procession to Mooresville will be posted after all transportation logistics are finalized.

“We’re angry. We’re hurt. We’re sad,” Mooresville Police Chief Damon Williams said during a press conference, The Charlotte Observer reported. “You can’t prepare for what we’re experiencing emotionally.”

A temporary memorial has been set up in front of the police department, located at 750 West Iredell Avenue, where members of the community may leave flowers. “We’re very grateful for the support we’ve been shown during this difficult time,” MPD said on its Facebook page. “Thank you to everyone who has stopped by and paid their respects.”
