Iredell Coronavirus Update: 70 Cases Confirmed In Mooresville

The number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases in Iredell County has grown. Here's the latest COVID-19 update as of Friday afternoon.

MOORESVILLE, NC — The number of confirmed novel coronavirus in Iredell County reached 144 Friday, according to county public health officials. The number of confirmed positive cases of novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, represents an increase of two confirmed cases in a day.

At least six people in Iredell County have died as a result of coronavirus-related illness, and five people remain hospitalized — one less than reported Wednesday, according to ICHD data.

The tally is cumulative and includes at least 87 cases that are assumed recovered, according to county health data.

As of Thursday morning, at least 13,868 people in North Carolina had tested positive for COVID-19, and 527 had died from coronavirus-related illness, DHHS said.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 1 p.m. May 8, according to the Iredell County Department of Health:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 ad 28678)

  • 24 cases (up two cases since May 5)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 50 cases (up 6 cases since May 5)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 70 cases (up three cases since May 5)

According to county health data, those in the age group of 25 to 49 years of age represent 34 percent of all Iredell County cases, followed by those 50 to 64 years of age with 34 percent of cases, and those and 18 to 24 years of age with 12 percent of cases. Those 65 and older make up 19 percent of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County.
