MOORESVILLE, NC -- Mooresville police stepped up their presence at Mooresville High School Monday as a precaution after a threat was made against the school from a Virginia high school student via social media, school officials said Monday morning.
“We have been made aware of a social media (Instagram) posting with several guns and the words, ‘Don't go to school tomorrow @MHS. Students. Loaded up bout head out,” said Mooresville Graded School District spokesperson Tanae Sump-McLean.
“We immediately checked our database and found no students matching the name on the social media account,” Sump-McLean said. “By working with the Mooresville Police Department, we ascertained that the post was made by an individual in Virginia that attends Monticello High School.”

While school officials did not feel there was any threat for students, MPD provided extra officers on campus, Sump-McLean added.
The extra presence on campus Monday wasn’t needed for long, however. Schools in Iredell County announced that schools would be dismissing early due to potential winter weather. “While we realize at the time of the precipitation the temperature is forecasted to be above freezing, there is concern that after several days of extremely cold weather the roads will not be above freezing resulting in potentially icy conditions,” MGSD officials said in a statement.
