Covid Patient and Contract Tracer with 91% response

For numerous reasons, tracing software is failing. Understaffed public health agencies, privacy concerns, not enough physical contact tracers, and crashing technology are the most stated reasons. And now, with the start of the school year, schools and universities are looking for a successful contact tracing system that they, and parents can trust.
A patient and contract tracer co-developed by a Michigan Public Health Department, utilizing an automated workflow with a quick, user-friendly follow-up protocol, has resulted in a 91% patient response rate. Based on the case management program OnBase, and co-developed by the Ottawa County Public Health Department and software developer ImageSoft, it is now being successfully used in 11 Michigan counties. One major factor in its success is that this solution was co-developed by a trusted public health source – not a Big Tech company.
The OnBase Patient and Contact Tracing Software application was built with input from nurses, epidemiologists and other front-line healthcare workers. Through digital surveys (typically administered by text message or email), COVID-19 patients can work with healthcare professionals to monitor symptoms, report who they’ve been in contact with, places they’ve gone and their test results. In use since April, it does not require anyone to talk on the phone or ‘opt-in’ – just a two-question survey response.
Since its inception, Ottawa County has had more than 51,851 responses, saving the equivalent of 6,913 hours of patient care. Each survey response represents a phone conversation that previously took 8 minutes on average. Real-time dashboards increase visibility and patient monitoring, allowing medical professionals to prioritize cases and immediately identify urgent patients.
Based on the OnBase digital workflow system, it is scalable and seamlessly adjusts to evolving needs, while being sustainable with widely applicable digital operations. The OnBase Patient and Contact Tracing Software meets or exceeds the CDC’s guidelines for Health Department COVID tracing.
