HONEY BUNS are the #1 office snack in NC

When we work from home, it’s only the dog that judges for our midday stinky tuna sandwich. But in transitioning back to the office, our snack of choice might be something every coworker wants to stay far away from — or wants a piece of.

A study by scheduling software Deputy found the go-to office snack in every state, and here in North Carolina, it’s definitely a snack I’d want a bite of!

The honey bun won!

Employers in the Tar Heel state should stock honey buns in their office kitchens not only because it was our state's winning on-the-clock snack, but because it originated here in North Carolina. According to a post by the City of Greensboro, discussed in this article, the honey bun was invented in 1954 by Howard Griffin of the Griffin Pie Company. The sticky snack started in Greensboro and the Google Trends study shows North Carolinians are still loyal to the treat when it comes to a sugary pick-me-up from 9-to-5. Other front-runners in our state included Nutty Buddys, grapes, gum, and skittles.

To wash it down, the most popular office drink in North Carolina was less regionally relevant: Gatorade. Runners up for the top spot included Lemonade, Sprite, and bottled water. Surprisingly, Iced Tea was not one of the most popular. Sorry sweet tea fiends — maybe, like me, you save it as a drink when you’re relaxing and not at work.

The most popular office snack overall was Zebra Cakes and the most popular office drink overall is bottled water. Looks like North Carolina is similar to the average American in preferring a sweet treat over salty, but likes their drink with more sugar.
