Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- The North Carolina Coalition Against Human Trafficking announced the launch of North Carolina's first 'Survivors' Network. The network is led by survivors and was created in hopes of empowering survivors of human trafficking to help others through their experience. On June 25 in Raleigh, the network will be holding "A Night in Bloom," a gala to honor survivors and provide them with support to begin holding events and support groups. (CBS17, Raleigh Mag)
- On Tuesday, a failed sewer line damaged part of the road near Crabtree Valley Mall. Raleigh officials warned motorists of sporadic detours near the mall as Lead Mine and Strickland roads were impacted by the incident. No stores at the mall were impacted by the sewer line, and authorities expect the repairs will be completed by Monday if the weather permits. (CBS17)
- Raleigh's new Brookside Bodega has been open for a week now, and is bringing change to the restaurant industry. Instead of relying on a server to take orders and relay them to the kitchen, patrons can place their orders directly via their smartphones. Co-owner Jacob Paramo says that the model cuts down on wait times and lightens the load as staffing shortages remain present across the industry. (CBS17)
- The housing market in the Triangle has been contentious for some time now, but according to loan officer Mark Wohlschlaeger of Movement Mortgage, now is the time to buy. Many homebuyers have backed off the hunt, anticipating a crash, but the Raleigh area hasn't been showing signs of slowing down. Mortgage rates are rising, but according to Wohlschlaeger if you look at the market as a whole, the rates are not as high as what they have been in the past. (abc11)
- The City of Raleigh announced that it will be opening two more pools this weekend. The lifeguard shortage has delayed pool openings, and with Biltmore and Longview pools opening, there will be three of the city's four seasonal pools open to the public. Raleigh Parks made the announcement via Twitter. The summer pools operate Friday through Sunday. (CBS17)
