Raleigh DAR donates 116 pounds of food to Veterans at the Durham VA

DURHAM, NC: Members of Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR collected and donated 116 pounds of food to the Durham VA Health Care food pantry on Thursday, June 30, 2022. The Durham VA Health Care System offers a wide range of health, support, and facility services for Veterans in North Carolina.

The chapter collected and gathered food items less than 72 hours after receiving an urgent notice from the facility requesting assistance stocking the pantry with protein-rich items and individual meals on the heels of a long holiday weekend. Members of Joel Lane Society of the Children of the American Revolution also included thank you cards to be distributed to veterans within the facility.

To help meet the ongoing needs of its community veterans, the Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR will hold an ongoing collection of food items requested by the Durham VA Heath Care System. While all shelf-stable food donations are appreciated, the following items are of urgent and immediate need: individual meal packets (e.g. tuna lunch-to-go kits); Spam; Vienna Sausage; Hormel Complete Meals; Horizon milk; cereal (individual packages or bowls); canned tuna, chicken or other protein enriched items; Chef Boyardee cans or microwave containers; breakfast items (non-perishable); soup (no cream based); Ramen Noodles; and canned fruit or applesauce cups.
