Raleigh DAR donates 368 Books to Local Children

RALEIGH, NC: In March, members of Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR collected and donated 368 new and gently used children’s books to the 9th Annual WAKE Up and Read Book Drive. The book drive provides books to 13 partner schools, 17 childcare centers, and builds home libraries for over 10,000 Wake County children each spring.

WAKE Up and Read is a community coalition working to increase childhood literacy and is part of the National Campaign for Grade Level Reading. They are on a mission to engage and educate the community about the importance of childhood literacy and to increase access to literacy resources and opportunities for all children. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a women’s service organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. Today’s DAR is dynamic and diverse, with over 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters in the United States and abroad. DAR members annually provide millions of hours of volunteer service to their local communities across the country and world.
