Raleigh Ranks Among the Best Cities for Treating Back Pain
Raleigh, North Carolina, ranked #10 on a recent list of the best U.S. cities to treat chronic back pain.
Living in Raleigh, you get used to hearing about rankings. Best places to live. Best job markets. Fastest-growing cities. What I didn’t expect to see recently was Raleigh landing at #10 on a list of the best cities to treat an achy back.
But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
A recent study ranked U.S. cities based on how well they support people dealing with chronic back pain, looking at factors like access to physical therapists and healthcare providers, walkability, fitness opportunities, and commute times. Raleigh cracking the top 10 says something about the infrastructure we have here.

Back pain is incredibly common, especially for people who spend long hours at desks or in cars. In a city like Raleigh, where growth has brought both opportunity and longer commutes, that matters. But we also have greenways, parks, fitness studios, and a strong healthcare network. Those everyday resources can quietly make managing chronic pain more realistic.
Of course, no city ranking replaces good habits. Staying active, strengthening your core, improving posture, and seeking care when pain persists are still essential. But it’s reassuring to know that if you’re dealing with an achy back in Raleigh, you’re in a place that offers support rather than obstacles.
