Wake Forest VFW Post Nationally Honored for #StillServing

Wake Forest VFW Post 8466 is being honored for dedication to country and community in the VFW #StillServing campaign. The national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing (vfw.org/stillserving) campaign recognizes veterans who continue to serve in their community after the military.

Post 8466 members are #StillServing by volunteering at Veterans Life Center (VLC) in Butner. Recently, they spent the day helping the staff and residents of the V.L.C. spread four truckloads of mulch and topsoil around the facility, its trees and gardens. Additionally, members shared the many ways the Post can help veterans in need.

Members of Post 8466 work with other VFW Posts in the area to identify veterans in need of assistance and help them. They provide transportation to the Durham VA Medical Center and make home improvements for veterans who are unable to do so.

The Post hosts a Veterans Coffee and Community Outreach the second Monday of each month from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. It also brings in speakers from organizations like the Joel Fund, Viet Nam Veterans of America, Humana, Veterans Smiles Foundation and North Carolina National Guard Employment Office to help veterans and offer resources.

Post Adjutant Al Zack said members are #StillServing because they like to embody the VFW mission to “Honor the dead by helping the living.”
