Wilson Explosion Girls U-16 Soccer Team Finding Success!

The Wilson Girls U-16 team is part of United State Youth Soccer and they participate in its top tier league, USYS PRO. USYS PRO was started by US Soccer in order to rival its two competitive leagues, the ECNL and the Girls Academy league. Until now these two leagues were the top tier of US Soccer, but now with USYS PRO you can now add in a third league.

You might ask, where does this team come from and who are they? Well, as the name states the team is located just outside Raleigh in Wilson and they train at the Gillette Soccer Complex in the town. The team has been together since most of them were nine and ten years old.

They are off to a fast start winning their first nine games of the season to include three big wins in South Carolina over the past weekend and they currently sit up top the USYS PRO league with their recent victory over the Georgia Impact. Last year the team defeated Wake FCs Girls U16 GA team in a dominating performance. This year they are stronger as they have added several players from the areas top ECNL and Girls Academy League and one international player that currently plays on Israels Youth National Team.

The coaches are both local products that have been able to mold the team into a cohesive unit that works for each other both on and off the field. They have created the sense of 'Family' within the group and that reflects on the way that they play the beautiful game of soccer.

It is a David and Goliath story so to speak. They do not have the big name, they do not have national exposure (just yet) and they are the underdogs in the State. The big clubs do all that they can to avoid playing them and because of that it is an uphill fight. However, in this viewers opinion, they could be the best girls U-16 team in North Carolina.
