“Wopper” Author Explores Baseball Legends of North Carolina
Share A Saturday Afternoon of Books, Baseball and "The Babe" with Author Frank Amoroso at the NC Museum of History

Raleigh – On April 22, author Frank Amoroso will take an entertaining look at some of North Carolina’s most enduring baseball legends, including Babe Ruth who attended his first spring training camps in Fayetteville and Wilmington. The program, “North Carolina: Where Baseball Legends Are Born,” begins at 2 PM at the Museum of History, 5 East Edenton Street, Raleigh. Mr. Amoroso will draw on his newly-released series: “Wopper – How Babe Ruth Lost His Father and Beat the Cubs in the 1918 World Series.”
Mr. Amoroso will share stories and anecdotes about Babe Ruth’s adventures in North Carolina, as well as discuss other North Carolina baseball players who were immortalized in the classic baseball movies “Bull Durham” and “Field of Dreams.” The adventures of other baseball luminaries also will be explored. Vintage photographs will accompany the presentation. A Q&A session and a book signing will follow the program.
The first book of the three-part “Wopper” series, “Volume 1: Pigtown,” was released early this year. It is the stirring tale of George Herman “Babe” Ruth, who grew up in Baltimore amid tragedy and trouble to become the greatest and most beloved baseball player to ever wear a major league uniform. According to Mr. Amoroso—an attorney who retired to North Carolina and is now a prolific author—the second volume, entitled “The Show,” will be released for Father’s Day in June.
