📰 News we're reading

1. Sharewear Community Event: Free clothing, bedding, school supplies, much more, on Aug. 8 - Triangle on the Cheap (triangleonthecheap.com) — Wake Forest residents can pick up free clothing, bedding, school supplies, and more at the Sharewear Community Event on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Jenkins Road. Everyone is welcome to “shop” at no cost, and donations are accepted the day before during designated drop-off hours.

2. Interactive map: Where apartments are allowed in the Triangle — and where they aren't (heraldsun.com) — New statewide zoning data shows Wake Forest is one of only a few Triangle towns that meaningfully allow small-lot housing, even as large-lot single-family zoning still dominates much of Wake County. The interactive analysis compares how Wake Forest, Raleigh, Cary and neighboring communities regulate apartments and lot sizes, shaping where denser, more affordable homes can actually be built.

3. How license plate reading cameras help law enforcement in central North Carolina (cbs17.com) — A woman from Wake Forest was arrested in Vance County after license plate reading cameras helped investigators locate her vehicle nearly 200 miles away, highlighting how this technology is used across central North Carolina. Local sheriffs and Raleigh police say Flock cameras aid in solving serious crimes and finding missing people, while some residents elsewhere raise privacy concerns.

4. Michael Pasquale Joseph DiNardo (iredellfreenews.com) — Family and friends are mourning 70-year-old Michael Pasquale Joseph DiNardo, a U.S. Army veteran remembered for his quiet strength, love of the outdoors, and deep devotion to family. In lieu of flowers, they’re asking that memorial donations be made to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption on Old Creedmoor Road in Wake Forest, supporting a local rescue in his honor.
