SBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Wilmington (wcti12.com) — State investigators are reviewing an officer-involved shooting that left a person seriously injured near Seventh and Red Cross streets in Wilmington Friday night. Wilmington police and New Hanover County deputies say the person fired at them before multiple officers returned fire. The injured individual remains in intensive care, and involved officers are on paid leave while the SBI continues its investigation.

(whqr.org) — If you've noticed fewer big container ships on the Cape Fear, you're right — container traffic at the Port of Wilmington has dropped sharply since mid-2025, especially from neo-Panamax vessels. GE Aerospace apprenticeship program marks first year in Wilmington (wwaytv3.com) — More than 80 people have already completed GE Aerospace's paid CNC machinist apprenticeship in Wilmington, with training split between the company's local facility and Cape Fear Community College. The program supports GE's planned $60 million investment at its Wilmington plant, which manufactures precision jet engine components and is part of a larger statewide expansion.
   

4. Clear the Shelters: Chihuahua mix Ollie looking for a forever home (wect.com) — A Wilmington-area rescue is trying to find an adult-only home for Ollie, an 11-year-old Chihuahua mix who's house-trained, vaccinated, and heartworm-negative. Wagon Tails Farm Rescue describes him as a gentle, snuggly companion who's timid at first but warms up quickly. Locals can contact the rescue directly to learn more or start the adoption process.
