The district is expanding its Safe Stop partnership with law enforcement and seeking more bus cameras, while urging local drivers to slow down and protect students.

2. Housing concerns emerge for some students as UNCW welcomes start of new year (wwaytv3.com) — Thousands of students are back at UNC Wilmington, but some are starting the year in overflow housing, sharing single rooms at double-room rates and learning of changes only on move-in day. As UNCW reviews assignments and builds Hammerhead Hall for 2027, affected students are pressing for clearer communication and fairer arrangements now.

From vaccines to breakfast: Health tips for the new school year (wwaytv3.com) — Wilmington pediatricians are seeing a rush of families making sure kids are up to date on school-required vaccines as the new year begins. Lowe's Home Improvement gets shunned in home state over contract with notorious surveillance vendor, Flock (fightforthefuture.org) — Protesters gathered outside the Wilmington Lowe's to oppose the company's use of Flock license plate surveillance cameras in its parking lots, part of a national week of action.
