Fargo Public Schools reports first-day enrollment total of 11,061 students (am1100theflag.com) — Fargo Public Schools opened the 2026–27 year with 11,061 K–12 students, a modest decline from the past two years that could influence class sizes and staffing in your neighborhood schools. Enrollment is down most in elementary and middle grades, while kindergarten ticked up and Davies High remains the district's largest school. Another official count comes September 1.
   

2. Woman killed in fiery Fargo crash on University Drive has been identified (valleynewslive.com) — A woman from Fargo has been identified as the passenger killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash early Friday at University Drive South and 13th Avenue South, where the car hit a building and burned. The driver from Moorhead suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted after initial treatment in Fargo. State Patrol and Fargo agencies continue to investigate possible charges.
   

3. Local businesses honor Dolly Parton with donations to book nonprofit (valleynewslive.com) — Fargo-area families are joining the outpouring of support for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, with Gathered FM Play Cafe in West Fargo donating play-pass proceeds and part of gift card sales to the book program. Local organizers say donations have surged since Parton's death, helping provide free, diverse books to young children across the Lakes Area and beyond. Business owners hope this is just the beginning of ongoing tributes.
   

4. Bison thump Jacksonville State in FBS debut (am1100theflag.com) — North Dakota State kicked off its FBS era in Fargo with a dominant 33-7 win over Jacksonville State in front of a nearly sold-out Fargodome crowd. A Fargo native scored the program's first FBS touchdown, and Coach Tim Polasek praised the community's role in the move up. The Bison now prepare to host Fordham at the Fargodome on September 5.
   

5. Photos: Fargo police honor sergeant who died of brain cancer (inforum.com) — Fargo residents lined streets Saturday as the Fargo Police Department led a solemn procession to Riverside Cemetery honoring Sgt. Tyrell Fauske, who died of brain cancer at 40. The longtime officer, remembered for his life-saving service and devotion to family, was escorted along 52nd Avenue South and South University Drive before a private burial.
