• Akron school board adds rules to say who can build new North High (beaconjournal.com) — Akron's school board has tightened rules on who can work on the new North High School, requiring subcontractors to show strong training programs while some members worry about costs and delays. The board also promoted Stancy Sykes to a key district role and reviewed a forecast showing Akron Public Schools must keep cutting or raise revenue to avoid running out of cash by 2029.
   

• Akron Children's Hospital opens expanded in-patient behavioral health unit (cleveland.com) — Families in Akron now have access to a significantly expanded in‑patient behavioral health unit at Akron Children's Hospital, adding more beds and a new crisis stabilization option for short stays. The redesigned fifth‑floor space emphasizes safety, therapeutic design, and family involvement, and responds to rising behavioral health needs seen in local emergency and primary care visits.
   

• GAR Foundation approves over $2 million in grants. See list of groups (beaconjournal.com) — More than $2 million in new GAR Foundation grants are flowing to 27 Greater Akron nonprofits, including Akron Public Schools and the University of Akron, with a strong focus on literacy and community spaces. Local arts groups, social services, and neighborhood organizations across Akron will see operating support and multi‑year funding that could shape programs residents rely on.
