• The Lockview to close in September, unable to surmount financial hole (beaconjournal.com) — A longtime downtown Akron favorite, The Lockview, will close in late September after nearly 20 years, with the building and contents being liquidated. Owner Danny Basone cites mounting tax debt, costly repairs, safety concerns downtown, and reduced Lock 3 foot traffic, but plans to keep his smaller Electric Frankenstein music venue and bar-food concept going nearby.

• Life Gurukula Buys 16-Acre Ohio Site For Hindu Temple (indiawest.com) — A Hindu spiritual group, Life Gurukula, has bought a former Catholic convent on West Market Street in Akron to create a Hindu temple and retreat center. The 16-acre site will host deities including Rama and Krishna and can accommodate more than 200 participants, with a major installation ceremony planned for November 14.

• Tennessee folk trio 'ain't ever goin' back to Akron' (beaconjournal.com) — Akron plays a starring role in a new folk song by the Tennessee trio Garrett Boys, inspired by their grandfather's years working at Firestone and playing country music in local venues. The band recently visited Akron's 91.3 The Summit FM and, despite the song's title, now say they'd gladly return for a full concert.
