It’s called Neuromyelitis optica (NMO).Get the facts:

•NMO is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, attacking the optic nerve (eye) and spinal cord, leading to blindness and/or paralysis.•NMO can have periods of remission or relapse.•NMO has higher prevalence in women than men.•NMO is commonly misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis (MS). MS treatments actually worsen NMO.•About 5,000 in the U.S. are diagnosed with NMO.

•There is no cure for NMO or any FDA-approved treatments.
