[Watch Live] Avon Lake Bald Eagle Cam: Third Egg In The Nest

A third eagle egg has been laid in a tree near Redwood Elementary School.

UPDATE: A third egg has been laid in the nest. Stars and Stripes, the proud eagle parents, have matched last year's egg total. Hopefully this year all three eggs will thrive in Avon Lake.

AVON LAKE, OH - Baby bald eagle watch is on again in Avon Lake. After two eggs were hatched last year by parents and year-round eagle residents Stars and Stripes, two new egg have appeared in the nest near Redwood Elementary School this week.

There's two eggs in the nest currently, but that doesn't mean more won't be forthcoming. Last year, the first egg appeared on Feb. 27, the second on March 1, and a third on March 5. So the duo of eggs in the nest could soon have another sibling to keep them company.

However, bald eagles usually only lay two eggs. When a third egg is laid it usually does not hatch or the eaglet does not survive. That sad lesson was learned last year when the third eaglet went missing on April 18 and officials said the bird could not be located.

You can read up on what happened to last year's eaglets here.

Right now, the footage is mostly composed of parents Stars and Stripes in the nest, warming the eggs. Once the eggs hatch, we can expect to see the baby birds fed and a whole bunch of other fun developments, like their learning to fly.
