'Lakewood's whole power grid needs to be replaced' (news5cleveland.com) — Lakewood's aging electric grid may need a full replacement costing hundreds of millions of dollars and taking up to nine years, according to comments relayed from FirstEnergy's CEO. Councilman Tom Bullock says the city will keep pressing FirstEnergy and state regulators for immediate reliability improvements while PUCO pursues penalties and corrective actions tied to Lakewood's repeated outages.
   

2. Lakewood City Council reports successful summertime community conversations (cleveland.com) — Lakewood residents recently wrapped up a third summer of informal "community conversations" with City Council members, where power outages, traffic calming, and walkability dominated discussion. Council President Sarah Kepple says these ward-based gatherings help residents share concerns about issues like e-bikes on sidewalks and ADA-accessible right-of-ways in a more relaxed setting than formal meetings.
   

3. 43 OH Fire Departments and Agencies Get Hazmat Training Funds—and One School Got Half of It (fireengineering.com) — Lakewood Fire Department is among dozens of Ohio agencies receiving new state funding to train responders for hazardous materials incidents. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio awarded $800,000 in grants, with Cleveland State University getting the largest share. These funds support training and planning so local crews are better prepared for dangerous hazmat emergencies.
   

4. Visit-Ability Is At Home On The Lakewood House Tour (lakewoodobserver.com) — Lakewood homeowners are opening six distinctive houses, including a fully visitable 1925 Craftsman bungalow, for the 2026 Look Inside Lakewood House Tour on Sunday, September 13. From classic Colonial Revival to modern construction, the biennial tour showcases accessible design, careful restorations, and local architecture, with tickets available through the Lakewood Historical Society and neighborhood businesses.
