Marietta fun fact of the day:
Two very important jobs for Marietta's earliest settlers were surveyors, whose duty it was to measure the land. And guards, whose duty it was to give alarm at the presence of Indians. The Indians had given them a hearty welcome in the beginning but became displeased when they saw the land cleared and huts erected.

1. Marietta Main Street's First Friday event went swimmingly last night. The theme was art walk. This was also the first day the DORA was active. (Patch)
2. There are no injuries after a fire in Marietta. The fire broke out last night at the Sierra Apartments on Pike Street. The cause of the fire isn't yet known. (WTAP)
3. A Washington County Grand Jury has entered indictments on 22 individuals. Here they are along with pictures, recognize anyone? (Patch)
4. A Washington County Deputy is awarded for saving a life in Belpre. The victim ripped an artery open with a drill. Deputy Martin was able to stop the bleeding and get him to a hospital. (WTAP)
5. The Ohio Senate wants to get rid of the five-star step up to quality program for childcare programs. A coalition of business leaders don't think that's a good move. (Statehouse News Bureau)

A little about me, I'm Chris Schmitt; I grew up in Marietta, went to Marietta High School, and graduated from Ohio University's Scripps School of Journalism.
