Marietta historical tidbit of the day:
The earliest settlers of Marietta had lived most of their lives in complete turmoil. Of course, the most momentous event was the Revolutionary War, but there was also disease, economic dislocations, and social unrest. After decades of this, folks yearned for quiet stability, or as they put it, harmony. The officers who founded Marietta called the town an asylum.

Here are the top stories in Marietta today:
- Police are identifying the victim of a deadly Meigs County car crash. Troopers say Sunday afternoon a truck crossed the median on State Route 7 hitting a car head on. Nineteen-year-old Jacob Wolfe was in that car, he was pronounced dead. The truck driver was treated for injuries, the crash is still under investigation. (WSAZ)
- A man suffered minor injuries after his car was hit by a train in Marietta. Troopers say Michael Burns failed to yield to the train yesterday morning on Gravel Bank Road. (WTAP)
- The Boley Enterprises building was demolished. The building was hollowed out last December by an electrical fire. David Boley says they just have to rebuild. (Patch Marietta)
- Marietta Mayor Josh Schlicher says there is a lot of new stuff going on this week in town. (Patch Marietta)
- Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks is releasing details about the arrest of 56-year-old James Sabolick. He was found with a 17-year-old girl in his backseat and faces a number of very serious charges. (Patch Marietta)

Upcoming Marietta events
- Summer Archaeology Field School, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week (6:00 PM)
- Artsbridge will be hosting a beach party on Wednesday at Parkersburg's Bicentennial Park. The event runs from 11 AM to 1 PM
- Music in the Park again will be held Thursday at Muskingum Park. The show starts at 7 PM.
- Free sports physicals will be available to area students on Friday. Memorial Health Services will be conducting the physicals. They run from 1 PM to 4 PM and reservations are required, click here for details.
- Buckcherry will be playing a sold-out show at the Adelphia on Saturday. The show starts at 6 PM.
