• YSU reminds students about substance policies as students return (wkbn.com) — As Youngstown State University students return to campus, officials are stressing the school's strict alcohol-free rules and continued ban on marijuana, even for those over 21. Staff say violations trigger case-by-case responses that can include counseling and education, with the goal of supporting students' mental health and long-term success rather than relying only on punishment. 
• Murderer denied chance to argue for another trial (vindy.com) — A Mahoning County judge in Youngstown has rejected death row inmate John Drummond's bid to seek a new trial in the 2003 shooting death of an infant on the city's East Side. The judge ruled Drummond's attorneys failed to prove he was unavoidably prevented from discovering claimed new evidence, leaving his conviction and rescheduled 2028 execution date in place for now.
