Deschutes County inmates and deputies remove 30% of graffiti from Bend area's Wind Cave (ktvz.com) — Deputies and Deschutes County jail inmates just removed about 30% of the graffiti scarring Wind Cave, the long lava tube southeast of Bend. Using sand and careful techniques, the crew hauled supplies deep underground to clean without harming the cave, which remains closed to protect fragile bat populations and reduce trash and vandalism. 
2. Axel's Taco Shop to anchor new property in north Bend (bendbulletin.com) — A new commercial building is rising in north Bend at the former Tom Tom Motel site on Highway 97, anchored by an Axel's Taco Shop location. The project will include a drive-thru, parking, and space for a second restaurant, expanding dining options beyond Axel's existing east Bend and Redmond spots and continuing redevelopment along the busy corridor.
3. 2nd annual Bend Comedy Festival gears up for 3 days of laughs this weekend (centraloregondaily.com) — Bend's comedy fans can catch more than 30 comedians at the second annual Bend Comedy Festival, running September 4–6 at venues across town. Organizers say they want to put Bend on the national comedy map, and tickets are still available for individual shows and three-day passes through the festival's website.
4. Industry Notes: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 (firstcallgolf.com) — Lost Tracks Golf Club in Bend will host a Folds of Honor charity golf tournament on September 10, raising scholarship funds for families of fallen or disabled service members and first responders. Organized by club owner Brian Whitcomb, the event will feature guest speaker Alexis Pearson, the organization's first first-responder scholarship recipient, and focuses support on local military and first responder families.
5. Rainy afternoon brings a change of pace to Central Oregon (ktvz.com) — A cool, rainy afternoon in Bend on Wednesday pushed many residents and visitors at the Old Mill District indoors to shop and catch movies instead of braving the elements. After weeks of heat and wildfire smoke, people welcomed the cleaner air and milder temperatures while still finding ways to enjoy Central Oregon's popular riverfront destination.
