Bud Pierce Apologizes Again for Comments on Sexual Violence

Pierce continues experience fallout from comments at debate last week.

Bud Pierce's week may not have been quite as bad as Donald Trump's. At the same time both had debate performances that had people talking days later. And not in a good way.

Last week Pierce - at a debate sponsored by the Portland City Club - suggested that educated women are not as susceptible to sexual abuse.

Pierce, a Salem oncologist, made his comments moments after his opponent, Governor Kate Brown, had admitted having been the victim of domestic violence.

"A woman that has great education and training and a great job is not susceptible to this kind of abuse by men, women or anyone," he said, causing some in the audience to boo while others seemed to be sucking the oxygen from the room as they gasped.

That comment led to his communications director, Stacy Kafka, stepping down.

Pierce apologized hours after the debate. Apparently, the campaign felt it was not enough and, on Wednesday, he did a Facebook Live video apologizing yet again.

He called his own comments "ignorant and potentially dangerous.

"I especially wish to apologize to all of the victims of domestic violence, upon whom my statement may have brought back the painful memories of their abuse, and the reality that many in our society do not understand their plight."
