- Mark Allen Lee, 23, has pled guilty to menacing and unlawful use of a weapon for an August incident in downtown Portland. Lee walked through the downtown area with an airsoft rifle after a heated political protest in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. He was sentenced to two years of probation on the condition that he possess no guns, airsoft weapons, or bear spray, as well as complete 80 hours of community service. (OregonLive)
- A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge ruled this week that Portland Police violated the law by filming and livestreaming at protest events last year. The American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon filed a lawsuit against the city in July of 2020, citing an Oregon law that prohibits law enforcement agencies from “spying” on residents — an important safeguard against police abuses of power, according to the ACLU. As one protestor said, "Standing up to injustice is important to me; having my own government deliberately put me at risk for broadcasting my location and political stance ... is unbelievable. - On the sixth anniversary of the shooting that killed 30-year-old Stephen Dwayne McCovrey back in September of 2015, Portland police are asking for the public's help in finally solving the murder. (Portland Patch)
- The state of Oregon is giving its 24,000 state employees six more weeks to get fully vaccinated, pushing back the original Oct. 18 deadline to Nov. 30. (KGW8)
- The 2021 Portland Book Festival, hosted by local nonprofit Literary Arts, will take place both in-person and virtually this November, and the lineup of four dozen authors from the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere has just been announced. (OregonLive)
