4. Judge removes federal monitoring of Portland police discipline, accountability settlement sections (oregonlive.com) — A federal judge has scaled back outside monitoring of Portland's police reform settlement, allowing the city to judge its own compliance on discipline and accountability tied to excessive force against people in mental health crisis. Justice Department lawyers and local advocacy groups argue recent shootings and protest responses show inconsistent accountability, making new community oversight bodies even more critical for Portland residents concerned about police conduct.
   

5. 'Blood on your hands': Man to serve 25 years after deadly stabbing at Clackamas apartment (koin.com) — A man connected to a deadly stabbing at a Clackamas apartment complex and a later jail assault will serve 25 years in prison, after pleading guilty to manslaughter and assault. The case also highlights that he violated supervised release by leaving Portland's Northwest Regional Re‑Entry Center, a decision the victim's mother says still haunts her.
